Dr. Hill is board certified in General Psychiatry by the American Academy of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Hill is originally from Kansas. He is married and has two children. He is a longtime resident of the Northland. In his free time he enjoys time with family and volunteers with the North Suburban Youth Football League. Dr Hill loves music and enjoys playing the guitar, piano and singing. He often plays at local venues.
Dr Hill received his undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas in Cell Biology and Masters of Science degree from the University of New Mexico. Dr. Hill returned to the Midwest and received his medical degree from the University of Health Sciences-College of Osteopathic Medicine here in Kansas City. He then attended and completed his residency in General Psychiatry at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He was awarded several honors while in residency, including chief Residency position as a third year resident at KUMC and the Kansas City VA medical Center, the Shaun Storm outstanding resident award, the “Top Doc” resident award and the Student Voice award, for outstanding teaching abilities. As a resident at KUMC, he began developing his clinical skills by working at several locations in both Kansas and Missouri, including Osawatomie State Hospital, Miami County Mental Health Center, Kaw Valley Center, and Two Rivers Psychiatric Hospital.
He began in Private Practice in Kansas and the Northland in 2004, and started Northland Psychiatric Specialists, LLC in June of 2006. Dr. Hill is on staff as a consultation Psychiatrist for Liberty Hospital, and serves as Medical Director of Psychiatric Services at North Kansas City Hospital. He is Co-Chair on the Medical Ethics Committee at North Kansas City Hospital and is serving on the Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee also at North Kansas City Hospital. Dr. Hill is Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at the Kansas City University of Medicine and Bio Sciences. He serves as a consultant for several pharmaceutical companies and has been involved in education nurses, social workers, and the general public on mental illness and awareness.
Dr. Hill is certified by the SAMSHA (substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) to treat opiate addiction.
Dr. Hill is well known for his compassionate and conservative care of patients with mental illness. He believes that medication is just a small part in the treatment for these patients. Dr. Hill promotes common sense psychiatry which includes providing patients with as much information as possible about their illness. A commonly used statement is that “through more education, there would be less medication”. Dr. Hill’s mission is to take his message to the public regarding many misconceptions of mental illness, utilizing the same techniques to empower them as he has done with his own patients. This type of approach has led to Dr. Hill’s popularity as one of the most successful psychiatrists in the region.
